Express Spanish Course: "hace un frío que pela"
During
these times of extreme cold, you’ve surely heard a Spaniard say the expression
“hace un frío que pela” and asked yourself what it means. Well, when the
temperature is very low, the cold can affect the skin to the point of cutting
or literally peeling the skin, since it loses moisture and dries out. It can be
clearly seen with athletes such as mountain climbers, those that normally have
their lips peeled.
For example:
- Me voy a comprar ropa más abrigada porque hace un frío que pela.
- I am
going to buy myself warmer clothing because it’s freezing (the cold peels).
