Basic differences between MUY and MUCHO:

- "Muy" accompanies adjectives and adverbs:

La paella está muy buena               The paella is very good

                              adjetivo                                       adjective

He llegado muy tarde a casa         I have come home very late

                        adverbio                                                   adverb


Some other examples: Very pretty, very well, very fast, very close, very far, and so on.

- "Mucho" accompanies nouns (attention! There is agreement: mucho/mucha/muchos/muchas) and verbs (then it is unchangeable):

 

Hay mucha gente en el bar            There are many people in the bar

                      N                                                           N

 

Me gusta mucho viajar                   I very much like (or I love) to travel

                               V                                                     V

1) To the question
"¿Estás contenta?" We give two possible answers:

- Sí, muy contenta / Sí, mucho.

  Yes, very happy / Yes, very much.

2)
"Mucho" can also be intensified with a superlative: muchísimo

Hay muchísima gente

There are many people

Me gusta muchísimo viajar

I really like traveling

3) “Mucho” can have an increasing value: much more, much worse, long before, etc.
