A world-renowned Spanish novelist: Vicente Blasco Ibáñez.
Born in Valencia on January 29, 1867, he had a life devoted to literature
and politics. What very few know is that he was a musician, also tried his hand
as a writer, and even ventured as a film director.
The Mayor of Valencia (Spain) has organized an exhibition of objects and
antiques related to the writer's life: books, photographs, shoes, clothes,
pipes, pens, pictures, and posters.
Republican, and committed to the policy, conditions were
made that his work during his time did not have a great diffusion (during the
dictatorship of Primo de Rivera). Being the Valencian that he was, he was
interested in the regional character, and some of his recommended works include
those such as Cañas y Barro (Reeds and Mud), or La Barraca, to know the
Valencia of the 19th century.
Among his best known works are: Los Cuatro Jinetes del Apocalipsis (The Four
Horsemen of the Apocalypse), or Sangre y Arena (Blood and Sand), made into film
on numerous occasions.
